We're pleased to present our 7th year of collecting Summer Reading Lists. As in the past, we've got book recommendations coming from a range of artists, writers, shopkeepers, designers, and other interesting people we admire. And, as usual, we're starting off with a list by Book/Shop founder Erik Heywood. We'll post new lists every few weeks here on The Book/Shop Journal, so check back often. You can also explore past lists here. Happy Reading!

Karen Schaupeter is the brilliant mind behind Ed. Varie, a pioneering art gallery, publisher, and bookstore with locations in New York and Los Angeles. Karen's work extends beyond the walls of her spaces, though; her work as a stylist is extensive, with dozens of books and ad campaigns to her credit. We're excited to jump into her recommendations, covering everything from rock music to Japanese design, social justice and family dynamics. Thanks, Karen!

Grégoire Alexandre is a Paris-based photographer whose works transcend that label. Christian Lacroix called his work "contemporary poetry" and clients from Issey Miyaki and Pierre Hardy to Nike and Montcler agree. Impeccably modern and instantly timeless, we find Alexandre's work to be deeply inspiring. We're pleased to share his summer reading recommendations, of which he says "Some of these selections I've already read some time ago and others still I haven’t, but I want to dive into them all this summer. Each is about creation and art." Merci, Grégoire!

The Skirt Chronicles is our favorite new magazine from Paris. We were lucky enough to have an event with its three effervescent co-founders in April of this year at Small Shop in the Marias. Sarah, Haydée & Sofia are some of the smartest, coolest, and most enthusiastic people we've been involved with in a long time. We're honored to carry Skirt Chronicles in our Oakland shop & we're very pleased to share a few summer reading recommendation from these amazing women.

Zhenya Posternak is a Kiev-born photographer based in New York. She works with her twin sister Tanya, creating beautifully distinctive work for the likes of Mansur Gavriel and fashion magazines the world over. We first found her on Instagram, where even her most casual snapshots are instantly recognizable as her own, poetic and assured. We're grateful to have a peek at her summer reading plans.
